A Bed & Breakfast getaway with the feeling of home

July 26, 2022 - After many years of running the bed and breakfast, it is now official. A Touch of Home Bed & Breakfast is closing at the end of the week and I am retiring. Thanks to all of you who have stayed with us over the years. We are blessed to have made many wonderful friendships during this time. Feel free to reach out to us anytime you are in town. We would love to catch up with you!

Looking for a nice, relaxing getaway to a place that feels like home? Come visit us at A Touch of Home Bed & Breakfast Inc. During your getaway with us, you'll enjoy the historic charm of our home, which was built in 1895. You will be steps away from the conveniences of main street Amana and surrounded by restaurants, wineries, art galleries and antique stores as well as a quilting store, a woolen mill, a furniture shop, Iowa's oldest microbrewery and so much more! Drive the 17 mile 'loop' and visit the other colonies and the shops in those villages too.

Our  home has been in our family since 1895 and has always been used as a mult-generational dwelling. Louie (one of the owners) has lived in the house since 1973, as well as visiting his father and step-mother in the summers for several years prior, when they lived in the house. Jan (Louie's wife) joined the family and moved into the house in 1983. Our two boys were raised in Amana.

Today we live upstairs in the house and the bed and breakfast is located on the main level of our home. There are two separate units which contain four bedrooms available for our guests. In each unit, you'll find a spacious common area with a living room, a kitchen, a dining area and a laundry room. In each unit, you'll find  two bedrooms, each equipped  with a private bathroom, comfortable queen bed, sofa, dresser and flat screen TV. You can rent one bedroom and share the common area or rent both bedrooms and share with friends or relatives, and have your own 'private' apartment.

One of our home's units, which first opened in June 2012, is located in the historic portion of the home. The other unit, which opened in August 2013, sits in a newly built addition. Both units offer private entrances for our guests.

A Touch of Home is also a pet friendly facility. We welcome dogs over one year of age and up to 30 pounds for a one time charge of $20 plus tax per stay. All service animals are also welcome on the premises.

At A Touch of Home Bed & Breakfast, we try to make getaways as affordable as possible. Whether you're looking to rent one room or four rooms for a place to stay during a family reunion, a special birthday or anniversary, a wedding, a retreat, a friends' get together or just a time away, we have the space you need.

A full breakfast is included with your stay each morning and is served in one of the two dining rooms, communal style. A variety of items are served such as German potato pancakes, roast beef hash, specialty french toast, fruit pancakes, waffles, sausage gravy and biscuits, egg casseroles, hash browns, ham, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, tea, coffee, pastries and more.
